Finally it looks like we’re going to have a Winter after all.. Precipitation in the form of snow – not rain – began to fall more or less consistently in the Sierra early on Saturday afternoon (Jan 19)..
It snowed intermittently in Cercedilla during the afternoon and continued to snow in the mountains during the night. This morning the mountain train was not running due to problems on the line; very strong winds have blown down trees everywhere, and at least one fell on the track’s overhead cables. There’s also quite a lot of drifted snow in some areas..again due to the wind. So we got to witness the spectacle of the big rotary snow plow starting up..
This machine seems to be pretty unique, the rotation of its blades being totally different to the classic rail rotary snow plow. Unfortunately we didn’t actually get to see it in action ..that would really have made my three-year-old’s day!
I think he had a pretty good time anyway..
