Other fronts are not so quiet though..

Fancy getting shot while out for a peaceful walk in the National Park of Guadarrama? In my last post i referred to things being quiet on one particular front; on others however there’s lots of shooting going on.. While out for a walk with my three-year-old  yesterday (Sunday 25 Nov) i was confronted by this notice just behind the Fuenfría Hospital:

Warning! Dangerous men with guns at loose among the trees..

Warning! Dangerous men with guns at loose among the trees..

Guadarrama’s heroic hunters are banging away..lots of guys armed with the latest technology in weapons are out and about getting some fresh air and killing small animals. Let’s hope they don’t kill any small children (and with the record Spain’s gun-wielding classes have on that one..i would say hope is all that we can do..). But seriously, just what kind of farce is this? As you are about to enter the “National Park” you are warned that you may be in danger of getting shot..what’s more the subtext seems to be that you really shouldn’t enter at all and indeed have no right to do so.. I, like many, have had my doubts about the Parque Nacional de Guadarrama..but this really sounds more like the Farsa Nacional de Guadarrama.

An Irishman am I, settled in Spain. Born was I in the middle of the country, for years I ran from it, far from the country, but in the end I returned, back to the country..
