As we approach the official date for the commencement of Autumn, the weather – perhaps a little surprisingly – seems to be going along with the calendar. Temperatures have gradually dropped in recent weeks and we even had an hour of light rain in Cercedilla the other day..and the forecast suggests a further drop in temps and more serious rain over the next week. Well..that sounds like Autumn alright, and I’m the first to welcome the arrival of the grey overcast days that in some parts of the Northern Hemisphere are associated with the Fall season..but I know from experience that in recent times in Spain the months of September and October can often seem like a prolongation of Summer, hot and rainless. This year so far has been extremely dry and relatively warm. If we took out the month of April there has been no significant precipitation since November 2011. Technically speaking, this is a year of drought. So let’s hope that it’s going to be a cool moist Autumn.

About coldspringdays

Éireannach is ea mé, i mo chonaí insan Spáinn. Rugadh mé i lár na tuaithe, ar feadh blianta bhí mé ag teitheadh uaithi, i bhfad as an tuath, ach sa deireadh d'fhill mé, ar ais go dtí an tuath.. An Irishman am I, settled in Spain. Born was I in the middle of the country, for years I ran from it, far from the country, but in the end I returned, back to the country..
