Autumn at last!

Yes, Autumn has finally arrived. The sun kept on beating down for the first twenty days of October, with maximum temperatures consistently in the high twenties in Cercedilla, but in the dying days of the month  the weather finally changed. Temperatures dropped and it was the rain’s turn to beat down. So it’s Autumn. That wasn’t too evident until the other day as the leaves slowly turned brown without any great show of colour, probably due to the dryness of the environment. It has also been a poor year for mushrooms so far, fungi being notoriously reluctant to pop up unless conditions are sufficiently humid. Now the weather finally tells us that it’s the Fall.. but don’t blink or you might just miss it. We’ve gone from summery heat to wintry temperatures in a matter of days and tomorrow it’s November, so who would be surprised if the Winter were here to stay? ..well, at least until December!*

*..when Summer might return, tremble.

About coldspringdays

Éireannach is ea mé, i mo chonaí insan Spáinn. Rugadh mé i lár na tuaithe, ar feadh blianta bhí mé ag teitheadh uaithi, i bhfad as an tuath, ach sa deireadh d'fhill mé, ar ais go dtí an tuath.. An Irishman am I, settled in Spain. Born was I in the middle of the country, for years I ran from it, far from the country, but in the end I returned, back to the country..
